Description

The World Youth Parliament for Water network (WYPW) represented the #WaterGeneration at the 2nd High-Level International Conference on International Decade for Action (Dushanbe Water Process) in Dushanbe, Tajikistan from June 5th until June 9th, 2022 alongside other youth organizations such as the Central Asia Youth 4 Water network (CAY4W).

The Dushanbe Water Process is an official key preparatory event for the United Nations Conference on the Midterm Comprehensive Review of the Implementation of the Objectives of the International Decade for Action taking place from March 22nd to March 24th, 2023. WYPW was an active contributor to the Dushanbe conference as a member of the International Advisory Committee of the Dushanbe conference, and to the Youth and Children Forum as an active contributor to the official program. More information about the conference can be found here.

During the conference, the network successfully pushed the youth perspective, trying to make sure youth will be recognized as one of the key players and will be included in the UN2023 process, including by increasing their representativeness and facilitating their meaningful participation.

The WYPW and CAY4W delegations met in Dakar, Senegal during the 5th General Assembly of the WYPW taking place in the frame of the 9th World Water Forum from March 16th until March 25th, 2022. Amongst others, they worked together on the first draft of the Youth Vision for Water on the road to UN Water Conference  2023 – read the official Youth Vision for Water here. They are excited to join forces again with other youth organizations of the Global Youth Movement for Water to advocate for meaningful youth involvement and for cooperation between sectors, generations, and regions in achieving the objectives of the International Decade for Action “Water for Sustainable Development”, 2018-2028.

These young water leaders actively took part in the preparatory UNIFY workshop on the Youth Development Plan and Agenda on June 5th, in the Youth and Children Forum hosted by UNICEF on June 6th and during the main event on June 7th and June 8th, 2022.

Furthermore, following the Dushanbe Water Process, the CAY4W delegation, with partners, hosted a 3-day Dialogue with 30 young water professionals from the border countries of the Syr Darya Basin.

During the conference, you could find them sharing expertise on youth-led solutions and youth role in the water governance, advocating for meaningful youth participation and cooperation in solving the water crisis and networking with other young water leaders and officials.

“I was excited to continue the work we had kicked-off in Dakar through the Statement towards UN Water Conference 2023 (Youth Statement) and continuous work on global youth alignment on what young people expect and really need from our leaders in water. It was a great opportunity to show how capable and willing young people are to work towards and on the actions that are needed to achieve SDG6. It’s an honor to be able to participate and advocate alongside such inspirational youth and non-youth!”, Carolina Tornesi MacKinnon, President, WYPW
