About us

Water Leaders of Tomorrow Making Waves of Change Today

Who we are

The World Youth Parliament for Water is a network of passionate young people  from over 80 countries. We are your 'Leaders of Tomorrow,' making waves of change in the water sector.  Our members take action on water issues at all levels; from concrete actions in local communities, to advocacy for youth leadership in the water sector at the United Nations General Assembly.

We respond to the interests of youth, working together to prioritize water issues and create platforms for the expertise of youth to be recognized on these issues. We support youth-led water projects. We work to see that youth have a valued and respected decision-making seat among senior water management officials. We are thirsty for a change!

What we do

Raise Awareness

We recognize young water leaders as change makers who can advance the values of equity, peace, and a healthy environment within the water sector. Outside the water sector, we lead efforts to improve water education, especially for youth, in all countries.

Advocate

We mobilize youth to speak with a lens on the future for peaceful and sustainable water management for the long-term. We push for more youth representation in established institutions and organizations.

Local Action

We work with and support young people committed to decentralized projects on a community level. Access to safe water and sanitation and the healthy management of basins is not possible without including local contributions.

Research

We conduct research, to improve our understanding of the connections between the environment, society and of the multitude of perspectives related to water resources management.

Our why

Peace

We commit ourselves to international cooperation over shared water resources. This is paramount to a globalized and interconnected world. In addition, domestic water management needs to prioritize equal and comprehensive stakeholder participation.

Equity

We pledge to be inclusive and consultative in our work, paying attention to cultural knowledge and context, in order to overcome inequalities.

Environment

The WYPW advocates for stronger trust in the environment. We want to learn from the environment, and dare to work with it! We value nature-based solutions. We see nature as a model of fundamental balance and should only inspire cooperation.

Our history

The International
Secretariat for Water
Supports Youth

The World Youth Parliament for Water was conceived by the International Secretariat for Water (ISW) in 2002. Since then, ISW has been supporting and guiding WYPW in the development of new regional Parliaments, connecting youth to decision-making processes, and mobilizing youth to take action. ISW co-organize the WYPW General Assemblies.
