A global network is established aiming to mobilize youth permanently

WYPW in Marseille for its 2nd General Assembly

In Marseille for its 2nd General Assembly, the World Youth Parliament for Water had the objective to structure and ensure the continued participation of youth in water projects. Held in conjunction with the World Water Forum, the WYPW's members had the opportunity to meet and discuss with experts and policy makers in the water world.

As a promoter of youth involvement in water-related issues, the WYPW presence at the 6h World Water Forum had the objective of ensuring the youth's ongoing participation in water project, to connect and foster cooperation between its young water leaders and acquaint them with the enduring impacts of their participation in the Forum.

Beginning in Aix-en-Provence, the activies consisted of preliminary meetings between parliamentarians during which they drafted the WYPW Charter and the Declaration that they would present during the WWF.

The participants also had the opportunity to take part in several workshops that contributed to the youth's capacity to develop and convey their messages effectively.

The parliamentarians held the election on the 8th of March, voting to elect its new board, choosing Bart Devos as President, Amadou Mariko as Vice-President and Marin Spetic as Vice-President. Six new representatives were also choosen as focal point for their respective region.

 

The WYPW members actively took part in the events scheduled at the 6th World Water Forum, as speakers and participants. As part of their preparatory meetings, the members strategically identified the sessions in which youth's voices would be heard and the key actors to meet.

They also had the opportunity to present the official WYPW Declaration to partners, media and participations of the WWF on March 14th as part of the official ceremony.

 

The hard work and dedication and the members of the WYPW present in Marseille proved to be worth it, as shown by the recognition awarded by high-level actors in the field of water. The Parliament received its official recognition by the institutions of the 6th World Water Forum - the World Water Council, the Global Water Partnership and the Green Cross International.
