Central Asia Youth for Water

Since 2018

Objective

Launched in 2018 during the Fourth General Assembly of WYPW at the World Water Forum in Brazil, The Chapter gathered representatives of Central Asia including Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. Inspired by this event, young water experts joined their forces in promoting sustainable development, water as an instrument for peace and joint actions for transboundary rivers in Central Asia and beyond.

The focus areas of CA Chapter were defined as following: (1) Youth contributing to transboundary cooperation; (2) Knowledge dissemination and experience exchange through youth; (3) Raising awareness about successful practices and best technologies; and, (4) Involving youth into safe water, sanitation and hygiene-related issues.

Key actions

Stimulating youth inclusion in global water processes:

  • Blue Peace event at the University for Peace, Costa Rica
  • Blue Peace Index calculation at the Oregon State University, USA
  • UN-75 Discussion on water issues in the Aral Sea Basin

Promoting youth voice on political level:

  • Participation at high-level panels
  • Co-moderating events

Public outreach:

  • Pitching about the transboundary cooperation in the Aral Sea Basin

 

Awareness raising:

  • Sharing knowledge at the online platform WaterCafè
  • Organizing webinars and workshops for young water specialists
