Description
The World Youth Parliament for Water was invited to talk about Youth & Water Crisis during the 2022 World Youth Forum. Held under the theme Back Together : The World After COVID-19, the World Youth Forum welcomed participants from over 196 countries in Sharm El-Skeikh, Egypt from January 10th-13th 2022.
Due to travel restrictions, only one of our speakers was able to make it in person, the WYPW president, Carolina Tornesi MacKinnon; she was virtually joined on the panel by Adil Jouamaa, WYPW African focal point for an interactive session.
“The forum itself was a great opportunity to connect with young change makers around the world and learn about what matters to them. Because water effects everything, it’s valuable to understand what role water plays in other key youth focuses to make sure the WYPW truly represents the global youth role. Furthermore, the WYF was a chance to build friendships across borders and immersive learn about countries around the world.” – Carolina Tornesi MacKinnon, President of the World Youth Parliament for Water
During the closing ceremony of the Forum, Carolina was awarded the Honoree award by the Egyptian president himself, Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi, for the positive work and dedication the WYPW is doing in the water realm for youth.
“I’m so incredibly honored to be recognized and receive an award on a global stage for all the work and passion the WYPW has done. The award serves as a reminder that we are making a difference but also encouragement to keep pushing forward to change the antiquated water spaces that don’t respect youth as the most valuable stakeholders in the future of water” – Carolina Tornesi MacKinnon, President of the World Youth Parliament for Water
This award is a representation of all the hard work each and every one of our parliament members is doing to change the water arena. The WYPW is only as strong as our members, so we want to thank all of you for your passion and dedication.
Thank you to our partners, the International Secretariat for Water, for their consent support and guidance. We would also like to thank our financial partners, the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation and l’Agence de l’eau Artois-Picardie for supporting our engagement.
