Description
We congratulate David Lindao Caizaguano and Flavien Vaille, Members of the European Youth Parliament for Water and Hisseine Ngague, member of the World Youth Parliament for Water, for being selected as a member of the Youth Steering Committee of the UNESCO conference “Water, Megacities and Global Change”, which will take place from 1 to 4 December 2020.
UNESCO – The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, is organizing the 2nd edition of its international conference “Water, Megacities and Global Change” – EauMega2020, from December 1-4, in Paris, France.
Bringing together representatives of the scientific community, elected officials, actors from the private sector, and civil society, EauMega2020 aims to be a cross-sectoral and multi-actor event to identify concrete and sustainable solutions for urban water management.
All megacities – urban centers with more than 10 million inhabitants – face “enormous challenges in providing water services to their inhabitants. The effects of climate change and global challenges are intensifying, such as rising sea levels, rising temperatures, and urbanization, and pose a long-term threat to these cities. Today, action is needed to create resilient cities.
The conference will give a privileged place to the participation of young people not only as beneficiaries but also as partners of the conference and an international steering committee has been set up. It is within this framework that David and Flavien, delegates of the 15th EYPW, will be involved in the whole preparatory process and in the holding of the conference. Their mission will be to bring the voice of young people to the conference and to promote a better consideration of the messages and solutions brought by young people in the water sector. The Youth Steering Committee will also be responsible for following up on the decisions taken at the conference and ensuring that they are translated into concrete actions.
